The Single and Married... Who's dating who...

Set in the suburbs of Ghana, The Single and Married looks at the lives of 3 young couples and the various roles they play in making or marring their relationships. Jay and Kim the main characters played by Yvonne Nelson and Chris Attoh are the newest entrants into the institution of marriage and its many uncertainties.

The movie also features Nadia Buari, Tana Adelana and Kofi Adjorlolo. Nadia Buari character fails to balance her work and family life constantly taking her husband for granted while Tana Adelana is plague with the old man syndrome and never satisfied  with his sexual prowess in bed. The story comes to its climax when the wives discover that their husband's are cheating on them except for Tana character though as her own shoe is on the other foot. The battle to keep their relationships ensures and well, the rest they say is history.

Watching a Ghanaian production for the first time, was loads of fun. I give kudos to the script writer Pascal Amanfo for the little pockets of jokes that seemed to compliment the story, the lines were snazzy and straight to the point. The actors and actresses had something believable about their characters that made the story feel real. I must also hand it to their choice of locations and tight editing, the unnecessary screens were cut to the barest minimum and like I mentioned, it was straight to the point. I loved how they introduce the inserts of a caller when telephone calls are being made, letting us see that they were not just talking to their mobile phones or in abstract.

However, the role of a narrator in this day and age, was somehow lost to me especially since she was contradicting her comments most of the time. There is  also something about Nadia Buari that isn't believable. She should endeavor to loose that accent (stop over doing it) and try to transcend in new roles and characters because she seems to be the same in all her roles (nothing special)

 It was a good movie, the notion that Ghanian movies copy Nigerian movies was totally lost to me( well not completely) as this movie reminded me of the Nigerian movie 'Games Men Play' featuring Uche Jumbo and Jim Iyke. It also had a Tyler Perry feel to it, but I guess that feeling didn't last through out the movie. 

It certainly falls in the RomCom category and gets an 'A' for production, editing and acting.
